What is driveway resurfacing?›
Driveway resurfacing, also called resurfacing, gives surfaces a new layer of material or repairs damaged by erosion, cracking, or other damage. Driveway resurfacing is a simple, cost-effective way to improve the look of your property. Resurfacing can be carried out in a number of ways, including by patching up cracks and holes or completely replacing them with new material. The benefits of resurfacing include increased safety due to improved traction on wet surfaces, reduced noise levels when driving over the surface, and increased curb appeal for potential buyers.
When should you resurface?›
You might resurface your driveway when it starts to look a little different from when it was laid — perhaps there are cracks in the surface, or it has begun to break up. Resurfacing gives your driveway a new lease of life and helps protect it from further damage. You can also resurface when you want to change the colour or make it wider.
If your driveway is grubby with oil or moss stains, resurfacing cleans these up by removing them completely. You can also resurface when you want to sell your property. And if you want to build a driveway or renovate your home, resurfacing is cheaper than filling it in and starting again from scratch.
To begin the driveway resurfacing process, we will first prepare the surface by grinding off any defects. This requires a special tool that grinds away the existing asphalt to make way for the new one. In some cases, this might mean removing concrete as well as asphalt. Once this has been carried out, we apply an adhesive that helps bind with the top layer of asphalt being laid down next. The old asphalt is then removed, and finally, new 2-3mm thick layers are laid down on top with a roller machine, so it is flat and level with no bumps.
Does it cost much to have a new surface put on your existing driveway?›
The cost of having your driveway resurfaced will depend on the size of the area you need to have resurfaced. The bigger the area, the more it will cost as greater labour and material costs are involved. If you’d like some help estimating how much it’ll cost to lift your tired old driveway, Concreting Canberra Pro contractors would be happy to visit your property and take a look at your existing surface before quoting you for the work.
